Michigan City poetry reading to raise funds for monthly series

Pullman monument vies for park preservation dollars

Nonprofit group visits Woodstock to help determine use for Old Courthouse, Sheriff's House

People in Woodstock are motivated to find a solution on how to use the Old Courthouse and Sheriff’s House, Wendy Holmes said, but the city just needs a little bit of technical assistance to get there. Holmes, senior vice president of consulting and strategic partnerships with Artspace, said the Minneapolis-based nonprofit met with more than 100 community members during the group’s recent trip to the city, and is now writing a report with proposed uses for the historic properties.

El Taller Latino Americano brings students to El Barrio

El Taller Latino Americano is proud to be partnering with Medgar Evers College Preparatory School on an all- day workshop on June 2, featuring artists from El Barrio’s Artspace PS109. As a part of their Spanish language studies, students at the Crown Heights school have been learning about the Latin American immigrant experience, and are coming to El Taller to get an immersive experience in El Barrio.

Race and housing in the Twin Cities: Don't underestimate the value of building spaces for artists

Artspace, the nation’s leading nonprofit developer of affordable housing for artists, was recently included in a study by the University of Minnesota’s Institute on Metropolitan Opportunity titled “The Rise of White-Segregated Subsidized Housing” (“Study finds racial bias in housing for artists,” May 21).  The recently completed conversion of the landmark, long abandoned Warren Building into the Artspace Uptown Artists Lofts (see related article), has been a springboard for private investment in downtown. Now, nearly all the Franklin Street storefronts are occupied with unique shops, restaurants, art galleries and other businesses.
