Poet and Literary Underground founder Michele McDannold's monthly Legit AF reading series celebrates its first anniversary in Michigan City's Uptown Arts District next Monday. McDannold has given a stage at the Artspace Uptown Artist Lofts Building to local artists, and brought in notable writers from across the country.

  Did you know that Artspace was a leader of historic preservation in affordable housing? Artspace has developed 22 Historic Preservation projects that are owned, operated, or undergoing construction to date, with two more historic preservation projects (in Trinidad, CO, and Chicago, IL)  that have yet to break ground. The Sailboat Bend Artists Lofts opened in late 2007, providing 37 affordable live/ work units for artists and their families, plus a three-story multi-use space for residents o hold meetings, exhibitions, lectures and other events. WPBT2 took time out to interview a few the building's artists during Open Studio, and talk about their current work and arts community a decade later.

Artspace, along with Loeffler Construction and Consulting, gave a "hard hat tour" of Artspace Hastings River Lofts to show the construction progress, spectacular views, and a sense of what it will be like for future residents. Hastings Community TV documented the tour and included floor plans, unit renderings, and other useful information in the video for those who want to learn more!

Mesa Artspace Lofts will open in June 2018, says Heidi Zimmer, senior vice president for property development with Artspace. The development will include up to 50 affordable housing units designed for artists and other creatives.Artspace is a Minnesota-based nonprofit real estate development firm that specializes in affordable live/work spaces for artists. It's 2016 year-end review noted 46 projects in 19 states. This is the first Artspace development planned for Arizona.

They have partnered with the El Paso Community Foundation to bring affordable living for artists while cultivating job creation and developing the art community.

On April 18-20, the Cheyenne River Youth Project®  welcomed the First Peoples Funds’ Rolling Rez Arts mobile unit to the Cheyenne River Lakota Nation. Visiting artist Wade Patton and First Peoples Fund Coordinator Bryan Parker spent three evenings with the nonprofit youth organization’s teen arts interns, providing valuable instruction in multiple mediums. On the first evening, the interns cut up pages from a ledger book and constructed a collage. Then, they either painted or used pastels to create unique visuals incorporating the ledger paper.
