Project Create provides opportunities for creative youth development through accessible, multidisciplinary arts education to empower young people and amplify their voices. Project Create staff, teaching artists and art therapists collaborate with children, youth and families in an inclusive and supportive community where art is healing and transformative.
In December 2019, Project Create purchased a 5,200 square-foot building in Historic Anacostia, establishing a permanent home in their community. In Summer 2021, when staff and students returned to fully in-person programming (after the worst of Covid passed), they soon realized that their individual studios were too small for more than about a dozen students at a time, and their main gallery couldn’t handle the capacity of their popular family art programs. Also, their growing staff had expanded beyond their available office space. With the help of Gensler DC, Project Create has developed a plan for much-needed expansion. As they embark on their biggest renovation project to date, Project Create would welcome support and learning in all of the areas that Artspace Immersion provides: project management, concept refinement, budgeting for space, site assessment, financing and loans, fundraising strategy, partnerships, marketing and communications, and navigating city resources.
