The Prison + Neighborhood Arts/Education Project (PNAP) is a visual arts and education project that connects teaching artists and scholars to incarcerated students at Stateville Prison through classes, workshops, a policy think tank, and guest lectures. PNAP courses develop projects—visual art, creative writing, and critical essays—which are the basis for exhibitions, events, and publications that are shared both within and across the walls of the prison.
During the Immersion Program we @pnap_il hopes to learn the processes of acquiring an art space; familiarize themselves with the intricacies of running an art space; and establishing the foundation for a sustainable space to support their students at Stateville prison, families of incarcerated folks, and their communities. They also hope to be able to pass this knowledge on to others, using the each one teach one model that's so important to their work.
