Traffic Zone Center for Visual Art Tour and hands-on collage making session with professional artist Jon Neuse

Workshop Description Make an abstract collage in the studio of professional artist Jon Neuse. This workshop is a hands-on experience where you will learn how to make an artistic collage. Using recycled paper images from your host’s personal files, you will enjoy making your own unique collage to take home. Learn how to design, position and glue mixed media in a fun and small group.
Artist’s Statement I use my old paintings and prints to make a collage. Using bits of older work to create a collage gives new sense and meaning to me. A collage gives a different dynamic and relationship to the gestural marks and textures of past work. A collage is not difficult to make--you just have to find the only spot where each piece must go for it to be successful.
Bio Jon Neuse was born in San Antonio and received an MFA in painting at the University of Minnesota. His work has been shown in over 200 exhibitions nationally and is included in many public and private collections. His studio is in one of the first Artspace projects, the Traffic Zone Center for Visual Art in Minneapolis. Jon has taught art for the past 30 years at colleges, universities, art centers and in his studio.
Hennepin Theatre Trust Walking tour of Downtown Minneapolis' Cultural Corridor
Put on your walking shoes and join Joan Vorderbruggen, director of public art and placemaking for Hennepin Theatre Trust, and Naomi Pesky, vice president of external relations for Hennepin Theatre Trust, on a five block tour of WeDo (the West Downtown Minneapolis Cultural District. Stops will include multiple murals, the historic Orpheum Theatre and urban galleries created out of vacant store-fronts through the Made Here project. The tour will last about 90 minutes, with half occurring indoors and the remainder outdoors. Space will be limited to 20 people.

Juxtaposition Arts Campus Tour

Participants will tour Juxtaposition Arts' campus and see how the organization combines art & design, training, youth employment, and community development via their social-enterprise business model. The visitors will hear more about their five social-enterprise studios where they employ local youth and adult artists and designers. They will see how the 20 year old institution has leveraged the redevelopment of the buildings it owns to spur economic investment and social connections between youth participants, other people in the neighborhood, and the broader Twin Cities community.
Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center Tour and Demonstration

The Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center sparks creativity and fuels community with art forms produced by heat, spark, or flame. We offer a variety of classes, open to anyone with an interest, in sculptural welding, blacksmithing, metal casting, glassworking, and more. We provide studio access to working and emerging artists, create public and commissioned artworks, and are home to a small gallery that represents artists working in fire arts forms, locally and across the U.S.

Minnesota Center for Book Arts Guided tour and book-making workshop

Take a guided tour through Minnesota Center for Book Arts! Learn about book arts, letterpress printing, papermaking, and bookbinding while walking through the studios and looking at presses, wood and lead type, guillotine paper cutters, and other equipment. Explore site specific installations and exhibitions. Then, experience the tools and techniques involved in letterpress printing on a Vandercook press. Print a single-sheet book, then learn how to bind the simple book by hand. Learn about MCBA's programming and a number of ways to be involved.
Guthrie Theater Backstage Tour and Riverfront Revitalization Discussion
Enjoy a private, backstage tour of the architecturally stunning Guthrie Theater, designed by Jean Nouvel. Opened in 2006, the new Guthrie was part of the revitalization of a once-neglected part of the Mississippi Riverfront. Hear from a member of the Guthrie's artistic team about their plans for the future under the leadership of new Artistic Director Joe Haj.
